Las Meninas
Photographic prints, 2000
38cm X 51cm (series of three images)

Extracted from a family’s super-8 films, these images are from a debutant ball from the 70:s in brazil . A ball where girls are presented to society at their 15:th birthday. the piece evokes the imagery of velasquez and his greatest contribution for the universal aesthetic – the sense of melancholy – and this is also the spiritual dimension that distinguishes indefinably his characters, giving them a quality of distance. related to kidnapping images, the work deals with the family as an institution and the private vs. the public.
