The Área Play exhibition, curated and with exhibiton design by Laercio Redondo and Birger Lipinski, brings together around 30 works by various artists in dialogue with the work of Hélio Oiticica (1937-1980), particularly his piece Área Play. In the original work, Oiticica transported a small 60×60 cm platform covered in hexagonal tiles across different points in Rio de Janeiro, creating spontaneous interaction between the artwork, viewers, and the urban environment.

This little-known piece by Oiticica is the main inspiration and starting point for the exhibition, linking it with works by Brazilian artists from different generations, whose pieces, even decades later, still resonate with the issues Oiticica once raised, offering a critical and current reading of the present time.

The exhibition design was conceived to reinforce the idea of “urban poetic events,” with the works arranged on large, flexible wooden structures. These displays not only create an interaction between the works and the space but also invite the public to engage actively, as if participating in a dynamic game, where each artwork uniquely relates to the environment and the visitors.
